Sensex Slips 319 Points, Nifty Dips Below 25K: Auto & IT Stocks Drag

New Delhi: Benchmark indices BSE Sensex and NSE Nifty50 ended in the red today. The market reflects a subdued sentiment. The Sensex dropped 318.76 points, or 0.39 per cent, to close at 81,501.36, while the Nifty50 slipped 86.03 points, or 0.34 per cent, to settle at 24,971.30.

Top LosersThe markets closed on a bearish note, with 34 out of the 50 Nifty50 constituents ending in the red. Key laggards included Trent, Mahindra & Mahindra, Infosys, Hero MotoCorp, and Adani Ports, registering losses of up to 3.61 per cent. Top GainersOn the upside, 16 stocks managed to stay in the green, led by HDFC Life Insurance, HDFC Bank, Dr. Reddy's Labs, Grasim, and Bajaj Auto, with gains reaching as high as 1.79 per cent.

How The Broader Market Is Performing?In the broader market, the Nifty Small 100 index managed to close slightly higher, recording a marginal gain of 0.01 percent, while the Nifty Midcap 100 index slipped by 0.24 percent. How Sectors Performed Today?Among sectoral indices, the Auto and IT sectors emerged as the biggest underperformers, each declining by over 1 percent. Other sectors such as Media, Metal, Pharma, FMCG, Realty, Private Banking, Consumer Durables, and Healthcare also faced losses on Wednesday. In contrast, the Financial Services, Realty, and Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) indices saw modest gains, rising by up to 0.55 percent, highlighting a mixed sentiment in the market.
