'Only Thought Process Before..', Rishabh Pant Reveals What Went On In His Mind During Rehab

Delhi Capitals skipper Rishabh Pant has said that while he was undergoing rehabilitation following a ligament reconstruction surgery on his knee, all he wanted was to bring a better version of himself to the field whenever he makes a comeback. The mindset has worked well for him as Pant is now the frontrunner for the wicketkeeper's slot in India's T20 World Cup campaign.

Pant had two stumpings, and two catches, managed his bowlers well and stayed not out, as Delhi completed a chase of 90 in 8.5 overs in an away match. He was adjudged the player of the match for his all-round performance as he led Delhi to their third win this season.

Asked about his work behind the stumps and with the bat, Pant said, "The only thought process before coming to the field is that I wanted to come in a better way."

"Only thought when I was doing my rehab. Each and every match I am loving the process and being on the ground," Pant said at the post-match presentation.

The Delhi skipper has made a remarkable comeback to competitive cricket after suffering a horrific car accident in December 2022.

Opting to field first, Delhi rolled over the Gujarat Titans for just 89 runs in 17.3 overs, the bowlers having a say after being blasted all over the park in the last few games of IPL 2024.

Mukesh Kumar was the most successful bowler for Delhi with figures of 3/14, while there were two wickets apiece for Ishant Sharma (2/8) and Tristan Stubbs (2/11).

"Lots of things to be pleased about. We spoke about champion mindset and our team spoke about it," Pant added.

When asked if it's the best bowling effort of IPL 2024, Pant said, "Definitely one of the best. Still early in the tournament and we can still improve from here."

Chasing a small target of 90, Delhi completed the formality in just 8.5 overs to register their third victory and give their run rate a boost, which is now at -0.07, more than Gujarat, who also six points from seven games.

"The only conversation was to get it as early as possible because we lost few net run rate points in some other games where we lost," Pant said.

On his bowlers' performance, the India wicketkeeper-batter said, "I think we just want to enjoy one win at a time. They are hard to come by but you have to enjoy each and every moment."

DC next play the Sunrisers Hyderabad on Saturday, April 20 at home.
