'Now Time To Polish..', Daniel Vettori Points Out Where SRH Need To Improve After Loss To RCB

Former New Zealand cricketer Daniel Vettori has said that while the Sunrisers Hyderabad are successful in setting targets, it is now time to polish chasing abilities. Hyderabad are third in the leaderboard with five victories from eight matches. Of the five wins, four have come batting first. For a team that has breached the 250-run mark thrice season, the target was very gettable but the in-form Hyderabad batting line-up could not deliver on this occasion.

It was a much-needed result for Bangalore, who lost seven of their first eight matches. The defeat was Hyderabad's third in eight games.

Considering the effectiveness of the spinners in the first innings, Bangalore opened the bowling with part-time off-spinner Will Jacks. The Englishman had the destructive Travis Head (1 off 3) caught at third man to give Bangalore a huge boost.

"We have been successful setting totals and now we have to look at how well we are in chasing," Vettori said at the post-match press conference.

Bangalore posted a challenging 206/7 after opting to bat and then restricted Hyderabad to 171/8. Head's opening partner Abhishek Sharma (31 off 13) did entertain the home crowd until his attempted slog ended up in the hands of wicketkeeper Dinesh Karthik.

"Obviously, disappointing one where we have come from in the last four games; we played some really good cricket and even though we lost, you could see if we had some wickets at the back end, we could have still chased it down," Vettori said.

"Those early wickets broke everything. We were confident for the scores we were being able to put up. We though that 206 was a good score, we probably let a few runs in the field. But there was confidence in the group because of past performances," Vettori added.

The former New Zealand cricketer said that there are no easy matches in the cash-rich Indian T20 league.

"Unfortunately, we didn't get the support through the middle stages. It's a tough loss but we understand every team in the IPL can beat every team. There are no easy games at all," Vettori said.

The former Kiwi cricketer added that the role of an anchor has no importance in high-scoring matches.

"I think the wicket was still pretty good. The guys who came off said that it is a surface where you can score on. Anchor role when you are chasing 207 it is hard to come, you obviously need to be aggressive. For some to sit along and play anchor role is a little bit tricky," Vettori said.

SRH next play defending champions Chennai Super Kings at the latter's home on Sunday, April 28 and will be desperate to get back to winning ways.
