Mumbai: A tragic accident took place on Western Express Highway (WEH) in Mumbai's Goregaon wherein a 21-year-old biker, Priyansh Bingardive, who was driving in the wrong lane, died after a head-on collison with a car. The biker asked his friend to record the movement on his mobile phone after his two other friends had attempted it on the same stretch just minutes before the accident.

While Bingardive lost his life in the crash, his friend Kunal Thakkar (19), who was filming the accident, sustained serious injuries when the bike hit him before colliding with the divider on the route from Kandarpada Metro Station in Borivali towards Pramila Nagar Bridge on the Western Express Highway.

Cops have filed charges against the deceased biker from Malad (East) for reckless driving, causing death due to negligence, and endangering lives.

The accident took place on at around 2:30 pm May 1 on Pramila Nagar Bridge in Borivali. This was nearly three and a half hours after the group of seven friends from Borivali, Dahisar, Malad, and Mira Road gathered in Borivali at 11 pm following their plan to have dinner in Bandra.

As per a police official, Bingardive was riding at a speed of 110 kilometers per hour on the wrong side when he crashed into the car. The officer further said that he suffered severe internal injuries and leg injuries that ultimately resulted in his death.

'Was Speeding Bike to Record Video'

In the complaint, 18-year-old Arjun Wala from Borivali (East) said that first, he and one of the friends captured the bike speeding on their respective mobile. Seeing this, Bingardive who followed them told that he too wanted to record his biking video. He asked Thakkar to capture the video on his mobile while riding in the wrong side.

Wala informed the police that he and another friend were waiting at a short distance when they heard a loud bang after Bingardive's collision with a car. They rushed to the spot to find Thakkar lying close to the divider. Wala explained to the police that Bingardive was on the opposite side of the road after his bike hit the divider.

People who gathered at the spot quickly took Thakkar to the hospital in an auto rickshaw. While, an ambulance was called to take seriously injured Bingardive who succumbed before admission in the hospital.

Police Register CaseBingardive has been charged under various sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Motor Vehicle Act for offenses related to rash and dangerous driving, leading to negligence and endangering lives, as stated by a police officer from MHB Colony.
