Mic-Cut Rule At CNN's Trump Vs Biden Debate Sparks Reactions: 'Less Meme Content'

One of the major talking points of the first presidential debate of the 2024 US elections is the mic cut-off system which will keep the other candidate muted when one is speaking. Notably, this system was introduced during the second debate of the 2020 elections after Trump and Biden went at each other in the first, leading to what some described as complete chaos. The debate, which will start at 9 p.m. EDT at the CNN headquarters in Atlanta, Georgia, will see two former presidents pitted against each other for the first time in the history of presidential debates. According to some analysts, the mike cut-off feature will benefit Trump more than Biden. Kristen Welker, who was one of the moderators of the 2020 presidential debates, wrote in an NBC article that Trump's inner circle has advised him to let Biden speak as much as possible. They expect that the president, who has often spoken gibberish or been involved in gaffes, will run himself into trouble without Trump having anything to do about it. Meanwhile, users on social media had mixed reactions to the mike cut-off feature. While some said that they would miss the chaos of the two presumptive candidates going at each other, others sarcastically said that their mike should be turned off the whole time, complaining that it's too much noise. Here are some of the reactions."Keep those mics on and bring the chaos," one user wrote.

"we wanted it to be messy and entertaining," wrote another. "can they be muted the whole time," said another user.

"thank god bc i know they’d just be talking over each other 😭😭😭," said one.

"Great, Biden isn’t gonna remember what he’s replying to and Trump is just going to talk about himself," wrote one.
