Panic ensued after a group of people enjoying their picnic encountered a leopard and began teasing the big cat. The results were as expected; the leopard injured three people. The incident took place in the South Forest Division Range when a group of people rushed to safety near the Son River in the Khitauli beat of the Shahdol range. A video doing the rounds on social media showed the group taunting the wild animal, which was hidden behind a bush. As they shouted "aa jaa, aa jaa," the leopard emerged from behind the bushes, even as the group continued to tease it. One person discouraged the behaviour while others giggled. Suddenly, screams and shouting could be heard as the big cat rushed in full speed and attacked one of them. Others ran in all directions to save their lives. The leopard attacked two people and dragged another individual to the ground, attempting to rip into him. The group of picnickers began screaming, with some heard yelling "bhaag" (run) in the video. Within seconds, the leopard ran away before the video cut off.
According to Badshah Rawat, the sub-divisional forest officer of Shahdol, another incident of a tiger attack occurred in the area a few days earlier, prompting them to advise people against venturing into the forests."An advisory has been issued. We have asked officials to alert villagers and others not to go into the forests. A control room has also been set up to assist people in such incidents," he said.Leopard attack in Shahdol range of Madhya Pradesh pic.twitter.com/iXYnxnkXSD
