Shreyas Iyer-led Kolkata Knight Riders were up against KL Rahul’s Lucknow Super Giants in match No. 54 of IPL 2024 on Sunday (May 5), and in the match played at Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow, KKR created history by becoming the first team to score 200 runs in an IPL match played at the home ground of the Lucknow Super Giants.

Thanks to Sunil Narine’s 39-ball-81, KKR posted a total of 235 runs on the board for the loss of six wickets in 20 overs. Apart from the West Indies all-rounder, Ramandeep Singh also made a significant contribution in the end by smacking 25 runs from just six balls.


Before KKR’s 235 on Sunday, the highest score at Ekana Stadium was 199, which was posted by the Rajasthan Royals during match No. 44 of the IPL 2024 played on April 27. In six T20Is played at Ekana Stadium as well, no team has been able to cross the 200-run mark.

In reply to KKR’s 235, LSG was only able to score 137 runs in 16.1 overs and lost the match by 98 runs. The win on Sunday has now helped KKR leapfrog the Rajasthan Royals and take No. 1 position in the IPL 2024 points table. The Shah Rukh Khan-owned franchise has 16 points from 11 matches played so far, and their net run rate (+1.453) is better than that of RR (+0.622).

The win over LSG on Sunday was KKR’s second win over the KL Rahul-led side in the IPL 2024, and by doing so, it has now done the double over them for the first time in IPL history. In three matches played before the ongoing edition of the cash-rich league, KKR never managed to secure a win over LSG.
