Kolkata: 6-Year-Old Boy Dies After Falling Through 5th Floor Railing Gap

Kolkata: A six-year-old boy died after falling through a gap in the railing on the fifth-floor staircase of a building in Ballygunge, police reported on Sunday. The accident happened around 9:15 PM on Saturday.The boy, son of domestic help Durga Nayek, was playing with his elder sister on the fifth floor, where they lived in the service quarters. According to the police, the boy lost his balance and slipped through the gap in the railing, falling to the ground floor.He was immediately rushed to Calcutta National Medical College and Hospital but, unfortunately, succumbed to his injuries. An investigation into the incident has been initiated, police added.In other news, the body of an 8-year-old boy who fell into a drain in Guwahati, Assam, and was swept away three days ago, was discovered on Sunday morning, bringing the search operation to a sorrowful conclusion.According to hospital sources at Guwahati Medical College, the parents, Hiralal and his wife, identified the body. Scientific examinations and further procedures are currently underway.The incident occurred when Abhinash fell from his father's scooter during heavy rain on Thursday evening in the Jyotinagar area. Despite his father's efforts to save him, Abhinash was swept away by the strong current. Since then, the parents had been anxiously waiting at the search site, hoping for a miracle.A massive search operation involving the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), and other agencies was launched immediately. Sniffer dogs, excavators, and various equipment were deployed to search the storm drain.The body was found by rescue teams in the Rajgarh area, more than four kilometres downstream from Jyotinagar where the incident occurred, according to a police officer.Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma expressed his condolences over the boy's tragic death and extended gratitude to the rescuers. He personally visited the search area on Saturday to oversee the efforts.With PTI inputs
