India wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan has said that it was heartwarming to see his long-time teammate Rishabh Pant back in action after a tragic accident that almost sabotaged his career. Kishan himself hasn't played international cricket for the past eight months and in the meanwhile, Pant made a glorious comeback into international cricket. After taking a break from cricket in November, Kishan returned to action in the DY Patil tournament in late February and was part of IPL 2024 as well, but he lost his Central Contract for not reporting for domestic-cricket duties after BCCI mandated that top cricketers be part of state cricket when not in action for the national team.Kishan has finally broken the silence on his lengthy absence from the Indian cricket team after falling behind in the preference order, even behind players with lesser experience than him.“It was heartening to see Rishabh back in action. As far as competition goes, you love challenges and when you compete with all the quality cricketers, it enhances your game. And then when you make it you feel like you have earned it," Kishan said while speaking to The Indian Express. The wicketkeeper-batter remains positive and is hopeful of playing for India again in all three formats. “I see myself playing in all three formats. I have done well in T20Is, ODIs and Tests as well. I want to be part of all three formats," Kishan said. The wicketkeeper-batter added that rather than brooding over missed chances, he is looking to focus on the future as he awaits the start of the domestic season to prove his worth yet again and make his way back into the Indian team. The Indian domestic season this year begins with Duleep Trophy on September 5. “Keep myself fit and prepare for upcoming tournaments. I am not thinking too much about the future. I want to stay in the present. At this point in time, I am only focused on how to become a better and different player from what I was six months ago," Kishan said. With a white-ball series against Sri Lanka beginning from July 27, it needs to be seen if the Indian selectors finally take note of Kishan's availability.
