Huchcha Made Me, Eega Built Me: Kichcha Sudeep

Two of Abhinaya Chakravarthy Kichcha Sudeep’s most popular and successful films - Huchcha (Kannada) and S S Rajamouli’s Eega (Telugu) released on July 6, 2001 and July 6, 2012 respectively. To mark the anniversaries of the two movies, the star actor took to his social media platforms, writing, “Two great moments of my life, on the same date. One made me, another built me. Thanks to each one responsible for making this happen. Forever grateful (sic).”

23 Years For Huchcha While Kichcha Sudeep started off his acting career in films with Thayavva in 1997 followed by Prathyartha and Sparsha, he shot to fame with Huchcha, directed by Om Prakash Rao which released in 2001 on July 6. A remake of the Tamil superhit film Sethu, the Kannada version in which Kichcha Sudeep portrayed the central character Sachidananda aka Kichcha earned him huge accolades. The film was so successful that his character’s name ‘Kichcha’ got added to his name and he was referred to as Kichcha Sudeep. The film, which successfully ran for several weeks, is also popular for the hit numbers scored by Rajesh Ramanath. While all the six to seven numbers from the album were hits, Usire Usire performed by Sonu Nigam turned out to be one of the all-time romantic hit songs in Kannada. ALSO READ: It's A Wrap For Max, says Kichcha Sudeep 12 Years For Eega Directed by S S Rajamouli, the Telugu film Eega, further propelled the stardom of Kichcha Sudeep beyond Sandalwood. His portrayal of Sudeep’s character alongside Telugu stars - Nani as Nani and Samantha Ruth Prabhu as Bindu was widely appreciated. Sudeep’s notable act as an antagonist who is challenged by a housefly remains one of his career best performances. Eega went on to become one of the highest grossing films of 2012, reportedly earning over Rs 125 crore. It eventually earned multiple awards even as it broke old records and set new ones.
