EXPLAINED: How Can RCB Qualify For IPL 2024 Playoffs After Crucial Win Vs Sunrisers Hyderabad

Send Push

Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) have finally secured their much needed win after losing six matches on the trot before in the IPL 2024. Their bowlers managed to tame the dangerous batting lineup of the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) as they have won the match at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad by 35 runs. This means that the Faf du Plessis-led still have the opportunity to qualify for the IPL playoffs and finish in the top four of the league table, despite still being at the bottom of the points table.

RCB now have just 4 points from 9 games, having won two and lost seven games. They still have five games to play before their league-stage campaign gets over. To have any chance of qualifying, they need to win all of their remaining five ga,es. If they do so, they will pick up 10 more points and finish the league stage with 14 points. They would now hope that only one of SRH, Lucknow Super Giants, Delhi Capitals, Chennai Super Kings and Gujarat Titans finish on 14 points. Even if all these teams finish on 14 points, then RCB will have to make sure that their Net run rate is greater than all these teams.

On the other hand, even if two out all these teams reach 16 points, then RCB's hopes of reaching the playoffs will be dashed. On the other hand, if RCB lose even one of their remaining games, their chances of qualifying die then and there as well.

RCB got off to a good start putting up 61 runs in the powerplay. Rajat Patidar then came into the picture, as he slammed a half-century in 19 balls before being dismissed by Jaydev Unadkat. Virat Kohli completed his half-century in 37 balls before Unadkat dismissed him for a lacklustre 43-ball 51. A quick-fire knock of 37 in 20 balls by Cameron Green helped RCB post a total of 206. Unadkat took three wickets and was the pick of the bowlers for SRH.

The RCB bowlers did the job early in the innings with Will Jacks giving them a dream start by dismissing he dangerous Travis Head in the very first over.
