Director Shankar on Saturday put to rest a debate that had been going on for some time over the agility of Senapathy, the character that Kamal Haasan plays in his upcoming film Indian 2, despite the character being over a 100 years old.

Never Thought I'd Make A Part 2Participating in a press conference organised by the team of Indian 2, Shankar said, “I never thought I would make a part 2 when I made Indian part 1. I didn't know that I would be making a film almost 28 years later. During the first part, the police department is shown studying details about him (Senapathy). We needed to put his date of birth on the monitor. We put up a date, calculating Independence and other factors. But we did not know then that we would be making a second part after so many years. Now, when the second part is ready to arrive, a lot of questions on the age of the character is coming up.” Also Read: Kamal Haasan Explains Why He Called Playing Senapathy in Indian 2 His Most Difficult And Most Challenging Role Till Date Senapathi Is A Reflection Of The Anger And Longing Within Each Of UsThe director then said how he looked at the issue. “There is a grand master of martial arts in China called Lu Zijian. He was 118 years old and it was only recently that he passed away. He was able to deliver blows and stay fit even in that age. The character of Senapathy in this film is also like that. He is a grandmaster in the Tamil martial art of Varmam. Such people commonly have certain qualities. For instance, they will be disciplined and they will have good food habits. They will eat only once a day. For such disciplined grandmasters, age is not a factor at all.” Shankar went on. He said, “Also, there is no age for Superman or for Ian Fleming's James Bond. If you calculate, Bond must be over 102 years. Do we look at him that way? We admire him. That is how I wish we look at Senapathy. That is because the character Senapathy is a reflection of the anger and the longing within each of us.”
