Delhi Capitals stayed alive in the IPL 2024 after they defeated the high-flying Rajasthan Royals by 20 runs, as they are still strong contenders to reach the playoffs this season. However, the match was shrouded in a bit of controversy and the man in the middle of it was none other than Sanju Samson. The RR captain was going great guns chasing a steep target of 222, and was nearing his 4th IPL century. However, a controversial catch in the deep by Shai Hope ended his innings. The third umpire did not explore many angles, as from one such point of view it looked like Hope's foot had touched the ropes. Amidst this controversy, Delhi Capitals'social media post has gone viral.

Delhi Capitals shared a picture of Shai Hope's catch on the boundary line on their official Instagram account. With this picture, they gave the caption "Shai Pakde Hain (Shai has caught it)", which is a twist on the popular Hindi phrase "Sahi pakde hain". This might be a dig at Sanju Samson and the several critics who questioned the legitimacy of the catch after it happened.

Check out the controversial catch:

After he was given out, Sanju Samson refused to leave the field and even wanted to go for a DRS call, but the time was unfortunately up. He even went on to argue with the on-field umpires regarding this. As a result, he was fined 30% of his match fees for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct.

Kumar Sangakkara On Controversial Sanju Samson Dismissal
In the post-match press conference, Rajasthan Royals head coach Sanju Samson said that the decision on whether it was a clean catch or not to dismiss Sanju Samson depends on replays and angles. He acknowledged that it is difficult for the third umpire to judge especially at a crucial juncture of the game.

"It depends on replays and angles; sometimes you think the foot has touched. It is a difficult one for the third umpire to judge. The game was at a crucial stage; what happens in cricket is you have different perspectives. At the end of the day, you have to abide by the decision the third umpire has made," he said

The Sri Lankan legend also said that if they have some dispute regarding the decision, they will sort it out with the umpires.

"If we have some other kind of opinion, we will share and sort it out with the umpires. Irrespective of that dismissal, we should have won the game. But Delhi played really well and fought till the end. They were very smart with their bowling at the back end," Sangakkara added.
