Chitragupta Puja SignificanceIn Hindu mythology, Lord Brahma is known for creating the entire universe. He assigned Lord Yama, the God of death, the task of deciding which souls go to heaven and which go to hell. However, when souls arrived at Lord Yama, he often became confused. Sometimes, he mistakenly sent good souls to hell and bad souls to heaven. When Lord Brahma found out, he spoke to Lord Yama and told him to be more careful. Lord Yama replied that it was hard to keep track of all the living beings in the three worlds. To solve this problem, Lord Brahma decided to create a solution. He produced 16 sons from different parts of his body and then meditated for a long time. When he finished his meditation, he opened his eyes and saw a divine man with broad shoulders and a long neck, holding an inkpot and a pen. Curious, Lord Brahma asked the man, “Who are you?” The man replied, “I was created from you. Please give me a name and a job.” Lord Brahma named him Kayastha and gave him the responsibility of recording all the good and bad actions of people. This is why Lord Chitragupta keeps track of everyone’s actions and judges their lives based on what they’ve done. He decides whether a soul should achieve Nirvana (freedom from the cycle of life and suffering) or face punishment for their bad actions. You may also like
