Bengaluru: After nearly five months of unusually intense heat, the Silicon Valley of India welcomed moderate rainfall, bringing much-needed relief to Karnataka's capital. As per the latest IMD forecast, a partly cloudy sky with one or two spells of rain or thundershowers is likely to occur on Saturday which will eventually bring down the day time temperature. The maximum temperature will be around 37 degrees Celsius, and the minimum temperature is expected to hover around 23 degrees Celsius today.
Taking to X (formerly Twitter), a weather blogger with the username @Bnglrweatherman wrote, ''Finally, the much awaited rains have entered Bengaluru city. Showers are being reported over Yelahanka now. Down town Bengaluru South is getting darker. Interesting hours ahead, '' in the caption and many other users shared videos of rainfall. While many parts of the city saw cloudy weather, rain was reported only from a few pockets near Yelahanka, Kengeri, and the outskirts of the city.

As of 9:30 pm on Friday, the Varuna Mitra dashboard managed by the Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre (KSNDMC) indicated that Rajarajeshwari Nagar received 0.29 mm of rainfall, with Dasarahalli following closely at 0.25 mm. Most other zones experienced little to no rainfall, with some areas only seeing a drizzle, as per a DH report.
Why Bengaluru Is Unusually HotThe unusually warm summer in Bengaluru has been linked to three main factors: El Niño, an anticyclone, and a ridgeline passing through 18 or 20 degrees latitude south. Although some experts suggest the urban heat-island effect may also play a role, Prasad emphasised that El Niño is the predominant factor, according to a report by DH.
Dry for a Long TimeBengaluru hasn't had any rain since 2023, that's over three months without a drop. While January and February are usually dry, March often brings some rain. But this year, there's been nothing significant.
