Send Push

Diwali, the festival of lights, brings about new beginnings, something positive, and better times. It's also a great time to rejuvenate the place you reside in and keep it clean and clutter-free. Vastu Shastra, the ancient Indian architectural science, provides important guidelines on how to arrange and declutter your home to welcome positive energy and harmony. Here are 8 Vastu tips for decluttering and organizing your home this Diwali for a prosperous and peaceful year ahead.

1. Clean entranceAccording to Vastu, the entrance is believed to be the gateway for good energy. So, this Diwali, welcome goodness and blessings through your clean, clutter-free entrance area and it well lit. Remove all unnecessary items, such as old shoes, broken pots, or dustbins from the entrance area. You may also place a traditional toran over the door and a Diya or rangoli near the entrance to invite divine blessings. Keep the door to the hallway open and unobstructed with no cracks around it no squeaks in the hinges, and no mirrors placed directly opposite the entrance. 2. North East Corner Cleansing The northeast side is very auspicious in the context of Vastu, regarding accumulation and growth. If this area remains clear, then positive energy will flow in your home smoothly. NEVER place heavy furniture here, large items, or even electronics. Leave space so there can be minimal decoration done with a puja altar or a water fountain to allow better vibrations. Always maintain the northeast corner tidy with some light or soothing colours for peacefulness and balance. 3. Kitchen OrganizationKitchen is the heart of your house, closely associated with your family's health. Vastu's suggestion is that there should not be any unwanted items, expired foodstuffs, or broken utensils in the kitchen. Organise your pantry, clear old supplies, and clear your stove while any issues will be fixed. The kitchen must also be aerated and never short of natural light so it can give positive energy and good health. Fresh fruits and grains in the kitchen will indicate wealth and abundance. 4. Declutter Bedrooms For Good SleepA clean and organized bedroom promotes peaceful sleep, which is a necessity for mental and physical well- being. Remove all unnecessary clutter there, like old books, clothes, or similar items collected and stored under the bed. Vastu suggests that space under the bed must always be free from clutter for the free flow of positive energy. Make the use of mild bed sheets, and a soothing decor creates a calmer and sounder sleep. Do not install any mirrors in front of the bed as they tend to make you lose sleep easily and create restlessness, as mentioned by Vastu.

5. Arrange the Living RoomThe living room is where families gather and also hosts guests, so it's an area that should always be in harmony. So maintain the area clean and devoid of anything else. Avoid placing heavy, big furniture by the door or along passageways as this will choke energy flow. Place it appropriately to foster interactions and loving discussion. Use Diwali diyas to illuminate the area and bring in fresh flowers or green plants to add a natural air and positivity. Again, beige, yellow or green colour for the living room is inviting and brings positivity and sense of togetherness. 6. Declutter the Storage AreasStorage areas often include cupboards, closets, and lofts which often get overburdened with unused things cluttered all over giving an untidy look. Vastu advises cleaning and organizing these areas from time to time because the stagnant energy can deteriorate the collective energy of your home. On this Diwali, take some time to sort through your belongings, donate things you don't need, and dispose of things that have broken or become useless. In this process, you are letting fresh and pure energy pass through your homes. Do not keep things that are not in use in the north or north-east direction as it acts as a hindrance to prosperity. 7. Keep BathroomAccording to Vastu, bathroom is a location where all the negative energy gets accumulated if not properly maintained. Make sure your bathroom is clean, dry, and hygienic, not accumulated with stagnant energy too. Also, there should be no leakage and taps should not break as water represents riches, and leakages show wastage of the same. The bathroom should also be fresh and inviting with essential oils, plants, or aromatic candles. Toilet lids must always be kept down and doors of the bathrooms closed, which ensures that positive energy is not drained away. 8. Balance Your Home with Light and Fresh AirDiwali is indeed the festival of lights, and lighting fulfils a very important role in Vastu. Diwali should be welcomed by bright lights glowing throughout the house, including the main entrance, sitting area, and puja space. In the past, traditional lights have been diyas, candles, or lamps lighting up the dark spots of a house and bring joy and bliss to a house. In addition, make sure your house is well-ventilated for cool fresh air to pass through every corner of your home. Lighting diyas in the south-east direction of the house during Diwali is also considered good as it is the Agni (fire) path, which brings prosperity and success.
