Ratlam: A five-year-old girl complained of being sexually assaulted by a teenage boy in the school premises in Ratlam district, Madhya Pradesh, said cops on Sunday. The incident came to light when a UKG student told her mother about the "bad touch" in her school by a boy. A student of class 10 with another branch of the same school, who is the son of a watchman was booked by cops. Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Rakesh Khakha said, "An investigation was conducted after the girl's mother lodged a complaint that her daughter was sexually assaulted in the school where her daughter is a UKG student. The accused boy has been taken into custody." Following the complaint by the girl's mother, the boy was booked under sections 65 (2) (Whoever commits rape on a woman under twelve years of age) and 75(physical contact and advances involving unwelcome and explicit sexual overtures) of the new criminal laws, Bharatiya Nayay Sanhita (BNS), along with Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POSCO) Act.
The alleged incident took place in the watchman's room on the third floor of the school building. On the night of September 27, the girl told her mother about the incident, said a police officer. He further added that the school CCTV only covers the ground floor. The incident sparked a political outrage, with Jitu Patwari, Madhya Pradesh's Congress Chief, condemning the BJP government for its inability to safeguard daughters following the heart-wrenching incident. He took to X (formerly Twitter), he said. "The news of a tragic incident with a 5-year-old girl in Ratlam has deeply disturbed me. Such incidents happen with our daughters every day in MP. I am deeply pained."He further wrote, "Daughters will not get justice by just asking for help from the government on social media. Now the Congress party will fight this battle on the streets."
