Lucknow: The Uttar Pradesh Police on Thursday nabbed two persons for allegedly harassing a woman while she was riding pillion on a motorcycle in Lucknow's Gomti Nagar area amid heavy rainfall in the city.Mohammad Arbaz and Viraj Sahu were taken into custody, bringing the total number of arrests in connection with this case to four. Earlier, Pawan Yadav and Sunil Yadav were arrested by the Lucknow Police. 'In continuation with our efforts to nab the culprits, we have arrested two other accused, Mohammad Arbaaz and Viraj Sahu, in the Gomti Nagar case based on evidence. The accused have been charged under Sections 191(2), 3(5), 272, 285, and 74 (outraging a woman's modesty) of BNS-2023,' said the Lucknow Police on Thursday.
On the directions of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, DCP, ADCP and ACP have been removed, while SHO Gomtinagar and Police outpost in-charge have been suspended. A video of the incident went viral in which some miscreants can be seen enjoying in rain with knee-deep water when they spot a two-wheeler crossing by beneath the Taj Hotel Bridge. The miscreants dashed towards the tw0-wheeler and began throwing water on the two riders. The local Police had to intervene as the woman fell down. They were dispersed by the Police. Raveena Tyagi, Deputy Commissioner of Police in Lucknow, said that after learning about the incident, the Police began reviewing the footage to identify the perpetrators.
