From Airlift To Neerja, These 11 Bollywood Movies Based On Real Life Incidents Are Must Watch

The Indian movie industry is one of the biggest movie industries of the world and as per an estimate 1500-2000 flicks are made every year in more than 20 languages. The majority of the films are based on fictional stories, some are inspired by real stories and there are few films which are completely based on true events and incidents.

Today we will let you know about some Bollywood movies which are based on true incidents:

1. Black Friday (2004):

Directed by Anurag Kashyap, the movie was based on a book (Black Friday: The True Story of the Bombay Bomb Blasts) by Hussain Zaidi which was about the 1993 Bombay blasts. It shows how the Bombay blasts were planned and executed and it also showed how police investigated and caught the culprits.

2. Airlift (2016):

Akshay Kumar and Nimrat Kaur starrer film was based on the evacuation of Indians who were living in Kuwait when Saddam Hussein-led Iraqi government invaded Kuwait in 1990. Airlift was directed by Raja Krishna Menon and Akshay Kumar’s performance was called one of the best of his career.

3. Neerja (2016):

Sonam Kapoor played the lead role in Ram Madhvani’s movie which was based on the real life incident of attempted hijacking of Pan Am Flight 73 in Karachi, Pakistan by Abu Nidal Organization on 5 Sept 1986. Abu Nidal Organization was a Palestinian militant group founded by Abu Nidal in 1974 and the film was shown from the perspective of head purser Neerja Bhanot who lost her life while saving the passengers.

4. Kesari (2019):

Akshay Kumar and Parineeti Chopra starrer Kesari was based on the story of Battle of Saragarhi (1897) in which 21 Sikh soldiers of 36th Sikh Regiment of the British Indian Army fought against 10,000 Afghani tribal soldiers. The movie was directed by Anurag Singh and it performed pretty well at the box-office.

5. Article 15 (2019):

Directed by Anubhav Sinha, Article 15 stars Ayushmann Khurrana in the lead role of a police officer and the flick is said to be inspired by the 2014 Badaun gang-rape and murder case. Though Ayushmann has played the character of a fictitious cop, the movie has depicted the reality of caste discrimination in Indian villages in a wonderful manner.

6. No One Killed Jessica (2011):

Vidya Balan and Rani Mukerji starrer No One Killed Jessica is based on the high profile Jessica Lal murder case and is directed by Rajkumar Gupta. It deals with the events which took place after the murder of Jessica Lal, a bartender during an elite event in Delhi where she was shot by a politician’s son after she refused to give him drinks.

7. Talvar (2015):

Starring Irrfan Khan, Konkona Sen Sharma and Neeraj Kabi, Talvar is loosely inspired by the 2008 Noida double murder case in which a teenage girl and a domestic help of the family got murdered. The film which was written by Vishal Bharadwaj and directed by Meghna Gulzar got released internationally at Guilty.

8. The Attacks of 26/11:

Directed by Ram Gopal Varma, The Attacks of 26/11 stars Nana Patekar in an important role and it was based on the 2008: Mumbai Attacks in which 175 people lost their lives and more than 300 got injured. 10 militants of Lashkar-e-Taiba carried out 12 shooting and bombing attacks at various locations of Mumbai in November 2008.

9. Uri: The Surgical Strike (2019):

This military action movie was a fictional depiction of surgical strike (retaliation) of the 2016 Uri attacks. Made on the budget of Rs. 25 crores, the flick went on to earn around Rs. 360 crores worldwide and it was declared a super blockbuster. It was the directorial debut of Aditya Dhar and starred Vicky Kaushal, Mohit Rana, Paresh Rawal, Yami Gautam and others in important roles.

10. Chhapaak (2020):

Directed by Meghna Gulzar, Chhapaak is based on the life of an acid attack survivor, Laxmi Agarwal, and it starred Deepika Padukone in the lead role. Though the movie is based on the life of one acid attack survivor, it is certainly a sad reflection of each and every acid attack survivor to some extent.

11. Super 30 (2019):

Anand Kumar is a pretty famous name among the Indians despite the fact that he is neither an actor nor a sportsperson; he is an Indian mathematics educator who is famous for his Super 30 program which was started by him for coaching underprivileged students for JEE-Mains and Advance. The movie was directed by Vikas Bahl and starred Hrithik Roshan in the lead role.
