UPDATE: During the Gamescom Opening Night Live event it was confirmed that Silksong will definitely launch in 2025.
The exact release date is expected to be announced during the Team Cherry live stream on August 21.
It was also announced that Hollow Knight Silksong will be playable at the Xbox and Nintendo booths at Gamescom.
ORIGINAL: It's fair to say that outside of GTA 6, Hollow Knight Silksong may be the most anticipated new PlayStation, Xbox and PC game.
Fortunately, after years of making fans wait, the Hollow Knight Silksong release date may finally be announced by developer Team Cherry.
Indeed, there's good news and bad news for fans of the Metroidvania sequel, because Hollow Knight Silksong looks like it will be skipping Gamescom Opening Night Live, but will instead have its own dedicated event later this week.
In a post on X, Team Cherry confirmed that it will live stream a special Hollow Knight Silksong announcement at 3.30pm BST UK time on August 21.
"The countdown is on!" reads a Team Cherry tweet. "Join us in 48 hours for a special announcement about Hollow Knight: Silksong!"

Unfortunately, however, Hollow Knight Silksong's release date won't be announced during Opening Night Live.
That's according to industry insider Jason Schreier, who said that the big announcement wouldn't happen during ONL.
"(No, Silksong's release date will not be announced today at Gamescom Opening Night Live, despite Geoff Keighley's teasing)," reads a social media post by Jason Schreier.
The Hollow Knight sequel takes place in a new land, and will feature a ton of new powers and abilities.
"Play as Hornet, princess-protector of Hallownest, and adventure through a whole new kingdom ruled by silk and song!" reads the official description.
"Captured and brought to this unfamiliar world, Hornet must battle foes and solve mysteries as she ascends on a deadly pilgrimage to the kingdom's peak."
A demo of the game will be playable for Gamescom attendees.
