Romania star Ianis Hagi suffered the misfortune of a gruesome head injury in the opening minutes of his nation's Euro 2024 knockout clash with Holland on Tuesday. And the medics' choice of bandage only made matters worse for the 25-year-old.
Within just two minutes at the Allianz Arena in Munich, a clash with Dutchman Denzel Dumfries saw Hagi come off worst as he caught an elbow which drew blood from the top of his head.
Medics rushed onto the pitch, treated the wound and put a net over his head to keep the bandages in place before sending him back into the action. Not every Euro 2024 viewer was sympathetic.
Writing on X, @Tetley1988 wrote: "Ianis Hagi appears to have a condom on his head. Fair play, I guess." Meanwhile, @dancingbulls added: "Ianis Hagi with a condom on his skull [crying faces]."
Others were reminded of other things by Hagi's unusual head gear, as @juasanalghaib wrote: "Loving Ianis Hagi's dinner lady style this evening," and @JustJan619 posted: "He ate the last orange from the pack on the way to the pitch and didn't want to litter."
