Kate Garraway has offered a rare update on her children Darcey and Billy 15 months after the death of their father Derek Draper.

The 57-year-old presenter filled in for Lorraine Kelly on her ITV talk show on Monday (April 14) morning for the first time in over a decade.

Dr Hilary Jones welcomed Kate back to the programme and didn't waste time in asking her how Darcey and Billy are getting on.

Kate explained: "Billy is doing his GCSEs at the moment and they start really early. In my day, which was O Level, it was all June but now most of his are over by the end of May.

"He did break his arm two weeks ago in three places but unfortunely it was his left arm so he can still write."

The proud mother of two continued: "Darcey is doing great. She's at first year of uni now." The GP asked "What she reading?"

Kate replied: "Law and Criminology so thats a bit scry isn't it. She's up in Manchester."

GMB star Kate is no stranger to Lorraine, with the broadcaster having regularly hosted Friday shows and filled in for holiday cover until 2014.

Now 11 years on, Kate was back on the show and couldn't stop smiling as she shared the news with her colleagues during the crossover live on air.

Throwing over to Kate on the Lorraine set, Charlotte said: "Look who's here for Lorraine this morning - it's Kate. Look at you in a different studio."

Kate replied: "I feel like I'm on holiday, Charlotte. I don't know what's going on. A later start, I've been looked after by everybody. It's very exciting. I feel like I'm having a nice time but I've actually got to do a show."

Lorraine airs weekdays on ITV1 at 9am
