A ground stop has been issued at JFK International due to severe weather.
Average delays of three hours and 33 minutes are being reported after the emergency alert at around 1pm ET.
"Inbound aircraft emergency to 13L. Will possible lose runway for arrivals. GDP revision likely after stop," the Air Traffic Control System Command Center said in an advisory.
The FAA told Daily Express US the emergency was due to engine issue onboard Frontier Airlines Flight 3546, which has since landed safely. The ongoing ground stop is due to severe weather, including thunderstorms, they added.

"Frontier Airlines Flight 3546 landed safely at John F. Kennedy Airport in New York around 12:45 p.m. local time Thursday, Oct. 30, after the crew reported an engine issue. The Airbus A320 departed from Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport in Puerto Rico. The FAA will investigate," the statement said.
Aviation trackers online said Frontier flight FFT3546/F93546, San Juan-New York (JFK) squawked emergency code 7700 upon landing.
Heavy rain, storms and gusty winds are expected into the evening in the Big Apple, with flooding possible.
One passenger aboard a separate plane that landed at JFK within the last hour told Daily Express US weather conditions made it "rough as hell."
Earlier, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) said Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) had restrictions through 8pm ET for general aviation.
Delays across East Coast due to stormsAirports in the East Coast are suffering difficulties due to the severe weather.
Baltimore/Washington International Airport (BWI) is currently facing a departure delay at an average time of 30 minutes and increasing due to thunderstorms.
At LaGuardia Airport (LGA) in New York, and Westchester County Airport(HCL) a ground stop is also in effect for departures due to low ceilings. Low Ceilings are clouds and or fog is close to the ground, creating a hazard for flights to take off.
 
   At Reagan National Airport (DCA)in DC, delays range from 59 minutes to beyond two hours.
Earlier today National Weather Service (NWS) place a coastal flood advisory in effect from 1p.m. to 5 p.m. EDT this afternoon.
