fans were up in arms on Wednesday's episode of on Wednesday after a player scored a cringe-worthy own goal, sealing her fate on the quiz show. Four new players joined host taking on chaser Paul "The Sinnerman" Sinha in a battle of brains as they attempt to take home a cash prize. But it was Head of Facilities worker Chantal from Hampshire that had viewers in a frenzy.
After scoring an impressive £7k in the cash builder round, the player struggled against quizmaster Sinha. With just one question left to get into the final, the contestant suffered a major blow when she ran out of time. After failing to select her answer within the 10 second countdown Chantal failed to buzz her answer in on time, sealing her exit from the show. "Well that was an own goal if I've ever seen one. Who times out on the last question just guess something - anything!," slammed one fan.
Another raged: "Where do they find these people? If you don't know you still have a 1 in 3 chance but not if you go into a catatonic state & forget to press the bloody button."
A third blasted: "here is simply NO excuse for running out of time," while a fourth penned: "Timed out on a final question? How??? Does this woman understand she's on a televised quiz show?"
Before being booted off, player Jim was also sent packing after failing to return with any prize money for the team.
But some viewers felt he was hard done by, claiming it was unfair he was given two medical questions - both of which he got wrong - especially with Sinha being a doctor.
"About time they stopped asking Paul medical questions, Mark maths questions , Shaun legal questions, Darragh science questions, Jenny gaming questions,Anne literature questions... give the players a fighting chance ..." said one fan.
Another echoed: "Dear The Chase , stop playing to The chaser's strengths. Anne never gets video game questions but Jeni does. Paul gets medical questions and Darragh gets science questions. Do you think the viewers are stupid??"
Players Max and Alice made it through to the final chase with £10k in the prize pot.
However, the pair stumbled on several questions and only managed to get 12 questions correct. Chaser Paul caught the duo easily with a whopping 53 seconds left on the clock, answering every question correctly.
Host Bradley declared the former doctor and stand-up comedian "made it look easy" as Sinha admitted their low score gave him "plenty of time to think about his answers"
Bradley also made a small dig at the duo's low score, declaring: "you'd have lost no matter what the questions were."
