ITV presenter Robert Peston's life - heartbreaking burglary, car accident and ex's death

Robert Peston is best known for his show, Peston. Off-screen, he has dealt with heartache after losing his late wife, Siân Busby, to cancer.

He is now dating Evening Standard diary editor, Charlotte Edwardes, but has spoken about his "guilt" at finding love again after the death of Siân.

In 1998, he married the writer Siân, whom he had known since they were teenagers.

Their relationship grew after Peston's sister, Juliet, was hospitalized following a car crash. Siân had a child with another man and divorced, but Peston took on the role of the boy's stepfather.

The couple had a child of their own, Max, the year before they married.

Sadly, Siân passed away in 2012 after a five-year battle with lung cancer, following 14 years of marriage, and passed away in Peston's arms.

Shortly after her death, their house was burgled, and her jewellery was stolen, adding to the pain of the grieving widower.

Peston said: "It's an incredibly distressing time, especially soon after losing Siân. It's not about the monetary value but the sentimental value. The rings are irreplaceable and they mean a lot to me."

He later fell in love with a journalist, Evening Standard diary editor Charlotte Edwardes. Falling for another woman after losing his wife made him feel like he was betraying her.

He told The Sunday Times in 2018: "I did feel desperately guilty."

Peston said about how they came to get together: "I made the first move by suggesting we have dinner.

"I was chronically embarrassed; I felt like a teenager again. I didn't know whether she fancied me, so it was a nice surprise to discover that it was mutual."

On Charlotte, he added: "So the exciting thing about Charlotte was that I'm confident that, of all the women I've encountered over the last few years, she is the one who's not remotely interested in me as a widower or because of what I do for a living.

"You want to be seen for yourself, and the good thing about Charlotte was that because she was having babies at the height of the financial crisis, she didn't have a f****** clue who I was when we met again.
