Labour's Darren Jones was left red-faced as they was grilled on the government's "panic reshuffle" by GB News reporter Christopher Hope. GB News shared a breaking news banner which read that "further shuffling is expected today", adding that "more changes are due". Appearing outside the BBC in London, Chief Secretary to the Prime Minister Darren Jones was left struggling to answer the questions fired at him as he addressed Rayner's resignation.
Hope asked: "What is this reshuffle for?"
Jones replied: "As the PM said on Monday, this is the second chapter of the government, the first being a new government coming in, getting a grip of the crises, putting out the fires left to us by the Conservative government, and now we're onto chapter two where we get to drive delivery of the promises we made to the public." Hope quickly retorted: "Come off it, it was a panic reshuffle in response to Rayner's resignation, be honest with us."

Jones insisted: "I am being honest with you, it is not, the PM was already planning a reshuffle but admittedly on a slightly slower time frame, but we announced the No1 appointments on Monday when it became clear that Rayner was leaving government, and the PM took decisive action to bring everything forward and get the job done," as Hope replied: "So three people have left the cabinet table, others are moving, shuffling around, is it really about tackling Nigel Farage and the Reform party's poll lead?"
The MP insisted: "No, this is about making sure we've got brilliant colleagues in briliant jobs, making sure we're delivering all of the public's priorities."
Hope asked: "So they were all in the wrong jobs before then were they?"
A stuttering Jones responded: "No, that's not what I said. Reshuffles are reshuffles, as your agenda develops then you move things around and that is normal in government, and we've got some brilliant people who are determined to deliver."
Jones' answers failed to impress viewers, as one said: "They call it strategy. Looks more like panic."
A second said: "Extremely disingenuous ......" we have a brilliant team now" ...the team has hardly changed, just the jobs & if Rayner hadn't resigned, No 10 had already briefed that there would be no more reshuffles with the senior team after Monday's announcement. Also within 5 days it's changed from phase to chapter !!!.....can't even agree with terminology."
But a third said: "It's not as though there haven't been a few cabinet reshuffles over the years, driven by events or poor performance."
