Deadpool and Wolverine: Marvel unveil how Hugh Jackman's X-Men hero is alive after Logan

Back in 2017, Hugh Jackman starred in his ninth and presumed final X-Men movie.

Logan was a send off for his superhero with an emotional death and burial at the film's conclusion.

However, just a few years later and the Aussie star changed his mind, phoning up Ryan Reynolds to commit to and Wolverine.

In their initial announcement video Jackman promised fans that reprising the role would still honour the death scene in Logan.

And now Marvel boss Kevin Feige has confirmed just how it's possible for Wolverine to be back

Feige initially thought Jackman's Wolverine return was a bad idea. The Marvel boss told the star: "Let me give you a piece of advice, Hugh. Don't come back. You had the greatest ending in history with Logan. That's not something we should undo."

Asked by Empire if the character in Deadpool and Wolverine was a different version of the one who died in Logan, Feige replied: "Correct". And here's how that's possible.

Deadpool and Wolverine is a multiverse story with the first couple of trailers teasing the Time Variance Authority from the MCU's Loki series.

In that show, Tom Hiddleston reprised his Marvel character who died in Avengers Infinity War by playing the variant from a different timeline in Avengers Endgame.

Of course, this means the likes of Robert Downey Jr, who is rumoured to be returning in 2027's Avengers Secret Wars, can play a Tony Stark variant without undoing Iron Man's sacrificial death in Avengers Endgame.

Deadpool and Wolverine hits UK cinemas on July 25, 2024.
