Arsenal fans will be expecting movement in the transfer window this summer, as they look to turn three consecutive runner-up finishes into a title win. Shaking the tag of 'always the bridesmaids' could be difficult for Arsenal, .
One of the ways Arsenal could improve their chances is by adding Premier League-winning experience to their ranks. One man, who certainly has pedigree in that department, being linked to the Gunners is ex-Manchester City star Leroy Sane.
The electric winger won two Premier League titles before ditching the Blues for Bayern Munich, but with his contract due to expire in the summer, Sane could be bound for a return to England. Arsenal have, according to , enquired about the possibility of signing Sane, who turned 29 in January.
One aspect working in the north Londoners' favour is the fact that Sane and Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta have a previous. The Spanish coach was Pep Guardiola's right-hand man during the time Sane was lighting up the league on City's left-hand side.
It appears Arteta's work left a lasting impact on Sane, given he spoke warmly of his former coach ahead of Arsenal's meeting with Bayern last season. On Arteta's influence, he said: "It was great. I was pleased to work with him because he actually really helped me at City.
"We had a lot of individual talks about how I can improve, strengths, my weaknesses, we worked a lot. I made huge improvements under him, he gave that to me. I still keep that in my mind and put that in my game - positioning, how to behave in certain positions. I'm thankful."
Sane originally joined Bayern in the summer of 2020, with the Bavarian giants splurging close to £55million on the then-24-year-old's signature. He had refused several contract extensions from City and has since gone on to feature 220 times for the record German champions.
During his time in the Bundesliga, Sane has won four titles with Bayern and registered over 100 goal contributions. An impressive 61 of them were goals, with the German international having also notched up 55 assists for the Allianz Arena outfit.
Sane was reported to have been in contract talks with Bayern earlier this season, but an agreement wasn't found, meaning he's expected to leave the club at the end of his deal. He's played 69 times for the German national team, scoring 14 goals.
