has decided to cancel the Citadel spinoffs Honey Bunny and Diana as separate entities, opting instead to weave their storylines into the much-anticipated second season of the flagship series Citadel, slated for release next year.
The Russo Brothers' projects, set in India and Italy respectively, were initially designed to expand the universe of the Citadel spy agency.
Vernon Sanders, the head of Amazon MGM Studios' television division, declared: "While these successful and widely enjoyed international chapters will not continue as individual series, Season 2 of Citadel will be our most exhilarating yet."
He assured fans of high-octane thrills, a refreshed ensemble, and a film-like journey that will delve further into the lives of operatives Nadia, Mason, and Orlick as they confront the formidable Manticore.
Season two's plot summary promises a rollercoaster of action, stating: "Just one month after the first season's finale, the Citadel spies are forced underground, evading Manticore agents worldwide."
Emerging from their concealment, they join forces with a new team of renegade spies to foil the schemes of Brazilian tycoon Paulo Braga, who intends to unleash a catastrophic technology developed by Citadel's very own Bernard Orlick.
Citadel features an impressive lineup of talent including Richard Madden, Priyanka Chopra Jonas, Stanley Tucci, and Lesley Manville, reports .
Despite the success of spinoffs Honey Bunny and Diana on Prime Video, Amazon MGM Studios has decided to cancel both shows in the wake of studio head Jennifer Salke's exit, who had aimed to take the series to a global audience.
For those Prime subscribers eager to delve into Citadel season 1, it's currently available for streaming on Amazon Prime Video.
The official IMDb synopsis for the first season states: "Global spy agency Citadel has fallen, and its agents' memories were wiped clean.
"Now the powerful syndicate, Manticore, is rising in the void. Can the Citadel agents recollect their past and summon the strength to fight back?"
Fans can look forward to the global premiere of Citadel Season 2 in 2026.
