The University of New Mexico (UNM) has issued a shelter-in-place warning on its central campus following a deadly shooting. Police received a report of gunshots fired at a student housing centre on Friday, July 25. The university first published an alert about the incident at around 3.27am local time. At the scene, officers found two people who had been shot. While one person sustained non-life-threatening injuries, the second sadly died.
A LoboAlert, the university's emergency notification system, was then sent out around 6.17am local time, with officials asking people to avoid the area as it's closed. However, the Health Sciences Center, including all clinical components, is still open. The suspect remains at large but multiple law enforcement agencies are on scene and actively investigating.
