Rourkela: Sundargarh police on Thursday detained 13 people in connection with the brutal murder of five members of a nomad group from Maharashtra’s Wardha near Karamdihi village of Sadar police limits in Sundargarh district on Tuesday night
According to sources, they were apprehended while trying to flee through Angul Banarpa. Among them are seven men and six women.
The murders were seen as a fallout of an illicit relationship. Three of the victims were women. Four children and a woman were also kidnapped while four other children and an adult male member of the community were injured as the assailants used pointed weapons like spears, sharp weapons and sticks in the late-night attack.
Avinash Pawar, one of the injured, told police that he had developed an illicit relationship with the sister of his wife and this may have led to the incident. He suspected his brother-in-law’s involvement in the crime. Pawar’s second wife, his two children and two other children of his extended family were forcefully taken away, he added.
The victim’s family had established tent there and, were vending various products to earn a living.
