'The Corrections': Meryl Streep to Lead New TV Adaptation as Family Matriarch

WASHINGTON: Meryl Streep is set to lead a new television adaptation of Jonathan Franzen's acclaimed novel The Corrections, which is being developed by CBS Studios. The Oscar and Emmy-winning actress will play the role of the matriarch of a Midwestern family in this upcoming drama, marking a second attempt to adapt the novel for television.

CBS Studios is in the early stages of developing the series, with Franzen himself involved as the screenwriter and executive producer. This adaptation follows a previous effort by HBO, which filmed a pilot in 2012 with Chris Cooper and Dianne Wiest but decided not to move forward with the series.

Originally, the rights to The Corrections were acquired by producer Scott Rudin in the early 2000s, and the project was managed by Paramount. Recently, the series moved to CBS Studios after the closure of Paramount Television Studios.

The Corrections, which won the National Book Award in 2001, delves into the complexities of a Midwestern family reuniting for a Christmas celebration amid the declining health of the family patriarch. Streep’s character, the devoted mother, is determined to create a memorable final holiday gathering as her husband's dementia worsens.
