Aaditya Thackeray declared that the Shiv Sena (UBT)'s resounding success in the Mumbai University senate polls is just the beginning, emphasizing the need to replicate this victory in the forthcoming Maharashtra Assembly elections.
At Uddhav Thackeray's residence, Matoshree, in Mumbai, jubilant party workers celebrated the win with smiles, music, hugs, and colorful gulal. The Yuva Sena, led by Aaditya Thackeray and representing the youth wing of Shiv Sena (UBT), triumphed by winning all 10 graduate seats, defeating the RSS-led Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad.
Addressing enthusiastic supporters outside Matoshree, Aaditya noted that the voting for the senate polls extended beyond Mumbai to include neighboring districts like Thane, Palghar, Raigad, and the southern Konkan districts of Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg. He stated that this broad reach demonstrates the party's influence.
"This victory showcases what we can achieve. This is just the start. We aim to achieve a similar triumph in the Vidhan Sabha," Thackeray said. He highlighted that the win reflects the trust graduates have in former Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray and announced plans to establish a helpline for students and graduates.
The senate serves as the highest elected decision-making body and oversight authority of Mumbai University, comprising representatives from teachers, principals, college management, and registered graduates. It holds the power to approve the university's budget.
The results come ahead of the anticipated state assembly elections in November, following Anil Parab's victory in the Mumbai Graduates constituency during the Maharashtra Legislative Council polls held in July.
Celebrations erupted at Matoshree, with Yuva Sena leaders like Varun Sardesai, who is also Aaditya's cousin, dancing joyously with party supporters. Aaditya Thackeray joined in briefly, applying gulal on the faces of his brother Tejas and mother Rashmi Thackeray during the festivities.
