President Droupadi Murmu Addresses Parliament: Key Highlights from Her Speech - A Recap of President Murmu's Second Joint Address to Parliament

President Droupadi Murmu delivered her second joint address to Parliament, focusing on key achievements and future goals of the Bharatiya Janata Party-led NDA government. Addressing the nation's lawmakers, she commended the government's re-election for a third term, emphasizing the electorate's confidence in its governance. She also praised MPs for their election victories and lauded the Election Commission for overseeing the world's largest democratic exercise. Notably, she highlighted the record-breaking voter turnout in the Kashmir valley, underscoring the democratic fervor in the region.

In her address, President Murmu congratulated the newly-elected members of the 18th Lok Sabha, urging them to uphold the trust placed in them by the voters. She expressed confidence in their commitment to serve the nation diligently, placing the interests of the country above all else.

Turning to economic matters, President Murmu previewed the upcoming budget, describing it as a comprehensive reflection of the government's extensive policies and forward-looking vision. She noted India's remarkable economic progress, moving from the 11th to the 5th largest economy globally in just a decade, despite challenges such as the pandemic and global conflicts. She attributed this achievement to decisive reforms and national interest-driven decisions undertaken over the past decade.

"My government is dedicated to further elevating India to become the world's 3rd largest economy," President Murmu affirmed.

Addressing agricultural reforms, she highlighted the government's efforts, including the disbursement of Rs 3.20 lakh crores under the PM Kisan Samman Nidhi scheme and a significant increase in Minimum Support Prices (MSP) for Kharif crops.

President Murmu underscored the government's commitment to the Northeast region, noting a substantial increase in budget allocations over the last decade. She outlined plans to transform the region into a Strategic Gateway under the Act East Policy, amidst ongoing efforts to maintain peace and resolve longstanding issues.

Touching on sensitive issues, President Murmu addressed concerns over paper leak controversies, assuring a fair investigation. She also discussed the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), expressing hope for a better future for refugees granted citizenship under the act.

In a nod to cultural heritage, she highlighted the government's efforts to revive the Vocational Campus at Nalanda University, aiming to restore India's rich heritage and traditions.

President Murmu concluded her address by extending best wishes to Indian athletes participating in the Paris Summer Olympics and announcing preparations to bid for the 2036 Olympics. She reflected on the Emergency period in India's history, describing it as a direct assault on the Constitution and celebrating the nation's resilience in overcoming such challenges.

Enhancement of connectivity infrastructure across the North East region.

Ongoing development efforts spanning education, health, tourism, employment, and more.

Planned establishment of a semiconductor plant in Assam, costing Rs 27,000 crores, aimed at making the region a hub for Made in India chips.

Government's ambition to elevate India to the position of the world's 3rd largest economy.

Achievement of fastest-growing economy status globally, with India rising from the 11th to the 5th largest economy over the past decade.

Sustained economic growth despite challenges such as the pandemic and global conflicts.
