Kazakhstan/India: India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasized the imperative to combat terrorism in all its forms during his address at the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit under Kazakhstan's Presidency in Astana. Speaking through External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, PM Modi called for international solidarity in isolating and exposing nations that harbor terrorists, provide safe havens, and tolerate terrorism.

Describing the SCO as a principle-based organization guided by mutual respect for sovereignty, independence, and non-interference, PM Modi highlighted the importance of upholding these principles in foreign policies. He underscored terrorism as a primary challenge and stressed the need for a united response to counter cross-border terrorism, including measures against terrorism financing and recruitment.

Addressing global concerns, PM Modi also focused on climate change, advocating for reduced emissions, adoption of alternate fuels, and climate-resilient infrastructure. He noted India's initiatives during its SCO presidency, including agreements on emerging fuels and de-carbonization in the transportation sector.

Reflecting on current global challenges exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic and geopolitical tensions, PM Modi emphasized the need for collective efforts to address these issues and mitigate their impact on international relations and economic stability.

India, which joined the SCO in 2017 under Kazakhstan's Presidency, has actively contributed to the organization's objectives and hosted key meetings, underscoring its strategic importance in India's foreign policy.
