PM Modi Holds Key Bilateral Talks with Uzbek, UAE Presidents at BRICS Summit

Prime Minister Narendra Modi held significant bilateral meetings with the presidents of Uzbekistan and the UAE on the sidelines of the 16th BRICS Summit in Kazan. The summit, hosted in the heritage city, saw Modi engage in discussions aimed at strengthening India’s diplomatic and economic ties.

After the meeting with Uzbekistan President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, Modi shared that they had a "wonderful" discussion, focusing on enhancing trade, cultural linkages, and overall cooperation between the two nations. Photos from the meeting highlighted the friendly exchange between the two leaders.

During the BRICS Summit, PM Modi also delivered remarks emphasizing the need for united action against terrorism. He highlighted the importance of having no "double standards" on this issue. Modi underscored India's preference for diplomacy over conflict, drawing parallels to the global unity seen in combating the COVID-19 pandemic.

On Tuesday, upon his arrival in Kazan, PM Modi had already conducted bilateral meetings with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, adding further weight to India’s presence at the summit.

Reflecting on the event, Modi mentioned the special significance of this year's BRICS Summit, as it marked the inclusion of new members into the group. These new members, including Iran, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Ethiopia, and the UAE, added further global relevance to the forum, which accounts for 24% of global GDP and 41% of the world's population.

Additionally, Modi had a warm exchange with UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, where they discussed further enhancing cooperation between India and the UAE. Both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to regional and global development, particularly in representing the interests of the global south.

This year’s BRICS Summit marked another important chapter in global diplomacy, with leaders expressing optimism about the future and emphasizing the potential for collaborative growth among member nations.
