Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Calls for Nationwide Protests on October 18: Here's Why

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has announced nationwide protests for Friday, October 18, in response to proposed constitutional amendments and the imprisonment of former Prime Minister Imran Khan. The party's political committee instructed its regional and local branches to hold peaceful protests at district headquarters after Friday prayers. PTI emphasized that these demonstrations would reflect a unified opposition to any government attempts to alter the Constitution.

In a related development, Meher Bano Qureshi, daughter of detained PTI Vice Chairman Shah Mahmood Qureshi, revealed on social media that her sister-in-law, wife of MNA Zain Qureshi, was allegedly abducted by masked men in plain clothes near their residence. Despite facing such intimidation over the past year, she said the family remains strong in their resistance.

Hammad Azhar, PTI's Punjab chapter president, condemned the incident and called for citizens across the nation to join the protests. In a video message, he urged, “It’s time to save this country and restore the rule of law and the Constitution. No Pakistani should remain at home after Friday prayers.”

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf  had earlier announced a protest on October 15 to address political grievances, but they called it off ahead of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit. PTI has consistently held protests in cities like Islamabad and Lahore, rallying against the government following Imran Khan’s arrest and the proposed constitutional changes.
