Itanagar: Senior IAS officer Manish Kumar Gupta has been named the new Chief Secretary of Arunachal Pradesh, according to an official announcement. The Union Home Affairs Ministry confirmed the appointment on Thursday, effective immediately. Gupta, a 1991 batch IAS officer, takes over from C.S. Dharmendra, who has been reassigned to the national capital.

Prior to this role, Gupta served as the Principal Secretary (Home) and Additional Chief Secretary in the Delhi administration. Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu has conveyed his best wishes to Dharmendra as he transitions to his new position in Delhi.

"Best wishes to Shri Dharmendra as he takes on new responsibilities in Delhi. His exceptional service in Arunachal Pradesh will be remembered for his dedication to the state's development," Khandu said.

He added, "We are grateful for Dharmendra's significant contributions and wish him success, good health, and continued achievements in his future roles."

The  appointment of Manish Kumar Gupta as the Chief Secretary of Arunachal Pradesh has clarified previous speculation regarding his potential successor. Earlier, there was considerable speculation that Sajjan Singh Yadav, a 1995-batch IAS officer from the same cadre, might replace C.S. Dharmendra, who has been reassigned to Delhi.

However, the official notification from the Union Home Affairs Ministry, issued on Thursday, confirmed that Gupta, a 1991-batch IAS officer, would assume the role of Chief Secretary. This announcement has put to rest any uncertainties about Yadav’s possible succession.

The Ministry’s decision to appoint Gupta emphasizes a strategic choice in leadership for Arunachal Pradesh, ensuring continuity and effective governance in the frontier state.
