Key Leaders Gather for BJP Strategy Meeting Ahead of Uttar Pradesh By-Polls

Lucknow: Political activities have intensified for the by-elections to be held on 10 assembly seats in Uttar Pradesh. An important meeting of BJP is being held in New Delhi, in which Home Minister Amit Shah, Party President JP Nadda, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, and Deputy CM of the state may attend. UP BJP President Bhupendra Chaudhary and State Organization General Secretary Dharampal will also be present in the meeting. The strategy for the by-election is likely to be discussed in this meeting.

Although the Election Commission has not yet announced the dates for the by-elections, the politics of the state has heated up. The contest is mainly seen between the BJP and the Samajwadi Party (SP), and the leaders of both the parties are holding continuous meetings. The seats in the state where by-elections are to be held include Karhal, Milkipur, Katehari, Kundarki, Ghaziabad, Khair, Meerapur, Phulpur, Manjhwa and Sisamau. Of these, 5 seats were with the Samajwadi Party, while RLD and Nishad Party have one seat each. BJP has 3 seats. After SP challenged BJP in the Lok Sabha elections, this by-election is considered a big test for Yogi Adityanath.

According to sources, BJP has prepared a panel of 27 names for 9 seats, which is being discussed. It is also being considered to leave seats for allies. BJP is considering giving Meerapur seat to RLD, but consensus has not been reached on Khair seat. At the same time, Nishad Party is also demanding Kathari and Majhawan seats, because their candidates contested on these seats last time. Many seats can prove to be challenging for BJP. Karhal and Kundarki seat of Moradabad are considered difficult for BJP, where Samajwadi Party MLA Zia-ur-Rehman has become MP. Muslim votes are around 65% and Hindu votes are 35% in Kundarki assembly, and BJP won here only in 1993.

Apart from this, there are difficulties for BJP on Sisamau seat of Kanpur. This seat has fallen vacant after the sentencing of Irfan Solanki of the Samajwadi Party. SP can give ticket to a member of Irfan's family on this seat, which can create a wave of sympathy. Samajwadi Party has already announced the names of its candidates on 6 seats. Tej Pratap Yadav from Karhal, Ajit Prasad from Milkipur, Naseem Solanki from Sisamau, Mustafa Siddiqui from Phulpur, Dr. Jyoti Bind from Majhawan, and Shobhavati Verma from Katehari have been given tickets. SP has given chance to backward and Dalit candidates on four of these seats and Muslim candidates on two seats.
