Delhi faced a challenging day on Thursday as heavy rain pounded the city, resulting in widespread waterlogging and severe traffic jams. Numerous roads across the national capital were submerged, causing significant inconvenience for commuters who had to navigate knee-deep water on several busy streets.
In response to the situation, the Delhi Traffic Police issued advisories to help commuters avoid affected routes. One such advisory highlighted disruptions on MB Road, where waterlogging between Khanpur and Shooting Range T-Point slowed traffic in both directions. The police urged travelers to plan their journeys accordingly.
Waterlogging also impacted traffic on GTK Road, particularly from Mukarba Chowk to Azadpur Chowk near the GTK Depot. Similar disruptions were reported on Rohtak Road, where traffic from Nangloi to Tikri Border was hampered. The Traffic Police issued additional alerts about waterlogged areas, including the GGR/PDR underpass and the Ring Road stretch under the Dhaula Kuan Flyover, affecting traffic flow on Ring Road, Vande Mataram Marg, and NH 48.
Further traffic issues were noted on MB Road, with waterlogging near Saket Metro Station affecting the carriageway from Badarpur to Mehrauli. Similarly, Outer Ring Road faced disruptions due to waterlogging and drainage overflow on the stretch from Bhera Roundabout to Peeragarhi. Traffic was also severely affected on MB Road between Badarpur and Sangam Vihar, particularly near the Railway Bridge at Pul Prahladpur.
The situation was exacerbated by vehicle breakdowns in several areas, adding to the traffic woes.
The heavy downpour on Thursday followed a day of continuous rain on Wednesday, when Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR) experienced steady rainfall, thunderstorms, and lightning. Earlier in the week, on Tuesday, the city saw light to moderate rain throughout the day under overcast skies.
