At the age of 26, this actress lost her husband and then her son

Durga Khote's struggle filled journey: Durga Khote did achieve success in her life, but before that she had to face many difficulties. Her husband died at a young age and then her son's death also broke her. But despite these challenges, Durga Khote did not give up and made a big name in the film industry with her hard work.

Husband died at the age of 26, then lost son: Durga Khote was born on 14 January 1905 in a Marathi Brahmin family. Her childhood name was Vita Lad and her father's name was Pandurang Shamrao Lad and mother's name was Manjubai. Durga Khote's family was financially strong and she graduated from St. Xavier's College in Mumbai at a time when it was a big deal for women of that time. She got married at the age of 17, but her husband died when she reached the age of 26. In 10 years of marriage, Durga Khote had two sons, Bakul and Hakin Khote. Both sons were well settled in their lives, but when her son Harin reached the age of 40, he died. Durga Khote herself died on 22 September 1991, when she was 86 years old.

After her husband's death, Durga Khote started teaching tuitions to children to take care of her family. She was one of the very good English speaking women of that era. In 1931, she did a small role in the silent film 'Farebi Jaal', but her real debut was in 1932 with the film 'Machindra'. Before coming into films, Durga Khote also worked in theatre. In her career, she worked in about 200 films in Marathi and Hindi cinema.
