What are gallstones? According to Dr. Aniket Payagude Consultant-Surgical Gastroenterology, Manipal Hospital, Baner, Pune , the solid deposits formed in the gallbladder are called gallbladder stones or bile stones. The gallbladder is a small organ located below the liver and stores bile to digest fat in the body.
Gallstones can range from small grains to as big as a golf ball. Some people do not see any symptoms when they have gallstones, but when these stones block the flow of bile, severe pain and other serious symptoms start appearing. This condition sometimes becomes so painful that the daily work of the sufferer can be badly affected. The doctor has told what are the causes of gallstones in young people and what is its treatment and how it can be prevented.
Fast food and processed dietsThings like burgers, pizza, chips, cold drinks lack fiber and have high saturated fat. This increases the possibility of thickening of bile and formation of stones in the gallbladder.
Crash diets and rapid weight lossMany young people follow keto diet, intermittent fasting or detox diet for sudden weight loss . This causes the liver to release more cholesterol, which accelerates the process of stone formation.
Sedentary habits and stressWorking for long hours while sitting, taking stress and not eating on time also affects digestion and metabolism, which can cause stones.
Staying hungry and eating too much at onceWhen we stay hungry for a long period and eat a lot of food at once, the gallbladder cannot contract properly, causing the bile to block and lead to the formation of stones.
