Sourav Ganguly is one of the most legendary players and captains of Indian cricket. He is known for giving a new direction to Indian cricket. Ganguly made his ODI debut for Team India against West Indies in 1992. He made his Test debut against England at Lord's in 1996. He scored a century in his very first Test match, after which he came into everyone's eyes and never looked back. After this, Ganguly made many records in his career, which were later broken, but there is one record which has been in his name for 27 years and no one has been able to break it till date.

Ganguly did this feat

He scored 11363 runs in 311 ODI matches. He was only the third batsman in the world after Sachin Tendulkar and Inzamam-ul-Haq to cross the 10,000-run mark in ODIs. Ganguly is third in India and ninth in the world in terms of scoring the most runs in ODIs. The 'Dada' of cricket did another feat in ODIs 27 years ago, on which his 'Dadagiri' continues even today.

Ganguly won 4 Player of the Match awards in 4 consecutive matches in the 5 match ODI series against Pakistan in 1997, a year after his feat in the Lord's Test. After him, no cricketer in the world has been able to break this record in ODIs till date. Let us tell you that he made his ODI debut against West Indies in 1992.

A new twist in captaincy

After his Test debut, Sourav Ganguly was scoring runs consistently, for which he was rewarded. In the year 2000, he was given the captaincy of the team, which proved to be a game changer for Indian cricket. Before him, India was known for winning only in its own country, but under his captaincy, India started defeating England and Australia in their own country.

Under Ganguly's captaincy, the team defeated Australia, which was considered the most dangerous team at that time, 2-1 in the Test series in 2001. In ODIs, the team defeated England in the final of the NatWest series in 2002. Not only this, India won the ICC Champions Trophy in the same year.

After this, his team reached the finals of the 2003 ODI World Cup. Apart from this, India reached the finals of the 2004 Asia Cup. Ganguly captained 49 Test matches, winning 21 and drawing 15. Out of these 21, he won 11 matches on foreign soil.

Ganguly scored 50 thousand runs

Ganguly scored more than 50 thousand runs in his entire career. This includes 7212 runs in 113 Tests, 11363 runs in 311 ODIs, while he scored 15687 runs in first class, 15622 in List A and 1726 runs in T20. Considering his contribution to Indian cricket, he has also been awarded the Arjuna Award and Padma Shri Award. BCCI made him the President in 2019 in view of his visionary thinking.
