Congress leader Rahul Gandhi is on a two-day visit to Rae Bareli, but his tour has been surrounded by controversy and opposition. Before even reaching Rae Bareli, protests erupted, and now the issue has intensified with BJP leaders openly objecting to recent remarks made against Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
BJP MLA Walks Out of MeetingUnchahar BJP MLA Manoj Pandey boycotted the Disha Committee meeting chaired by Rahul Gandhi in Rae Bareli. The MLA walked out midway, citing his strong disapproval. He said, “From Rahul Gandhi’s stage, abusive words were used for PM Modi’s mother. This boycott is a mark of protest. Under no circumstances will insults against the Prime Minister be tolerated.”
He also questioned Rahul Gandhi’s contribution to Rae Bareli, asking what development work had been done during his tenure.
The Bihar ConnectionThis controversy stems from an incident in Bihar during the Voter Rights Yatra, where a youth allegedly made indecent remarks against PM Modi from the Congress stage. The comment sparked protests nationwide, and the ripple effect is now visible in Rae Bareli too.
Protests Before Rahul’s ArrivalJust a day earlier, Uttar Pradesh minister Dinesh Pratap Singh, along with BJP supporters, staged a dharna against Rahul Gandhi over the same issue. They raised slogans of “Rahul Go Back” and even blocked his convoy nearly a kilometer before it could enter. The standoff ended only after police intervention allowed the convoy to move forward.
