Tesco issues urgent recall as three popular pasta products may cause diarrhoea

Tesco has issued a recall for three pasta salad products over fears they may be contaminated with salmonella.

Customers who have bought the affected products are being urged not to eat them and instead return them to any Tesco store for a full refund. The supermarketgiant said it was recalling specific date codes of three Tesco Pasta Salads due to the possible presence of salmonellafound during routine testing.

The affected product batches include the Tesco Basil Pesto & Semi Dried Tomato Pasta 225g with a use by date of Jul 24 (2025), the Tesco Chicken & Chorizo Pasta 285g with use by dates Jul 24 and Jul 25, and the Tesco Feta Semi Dried Tomato Pasta 290g with the use by date Jul 24.

The notice added: "If you have purchased the affected date code of the above product, please do not eat it. Instead. return it to any Tesco store for a full refund. No recept is required. No other Tesco products are affected by this recall."

Symptoms caused by salmonella typically include diarrhoea, fever and abdominal cramps. Those who develop symptoms should stay at home until they have passed for at least 48 hours to avoid passing it on to others.

If left untreated, salmonella infections can lead to severe dehydration, infections in the bloodstream, and even spread to other parts of the body, potentially causing meningitis, osteomyelitis (bone infection), or reactive arthritis.

In most cases, the disease will resolve on its own within a week. But vulnerable individuals, particularly the elderly, infants, and those with weakened immune systems, are at higher risk of complications and may require hospital treatment and antibiotics.

The recall comes after Waitrose pulled one of its own-brand curry ready meals as it could cause allergic reactions. The supermarket recalled some batches of its Waitrose Indian Takeaway for two because some packs were mispacked with spring rolls, which contain sesame and soya, and these allergens are not mentioned on the label.

This means the product is a possible health risk for anyone with an allergy to sesame or soya. Allergy symptoms can range from skin reactions to the swelling of the lips or face, or vomiting and diarrhoea.
