Sergio Aguero makes 'surprising' Luis Diaz comment as he brutally overlooks Man Utd duo

Sergio Aguero heaped praise on Luis Diaz as he named his favourite wingmen combination in the Premier League.

The former Manchester City goal machine, who retired in 2021 for health reasons, knows all about what strikers want from wide players. When asked to name the current best duo in the English top-flight, he highlighted City’s Jeremy Doku and Savinho while Manchester United’s Alejandro Garnacho, a fellow Argentine, and Marcus Rashford didn’t even get a mention.

Aguero also admitted his admiration for Diaz and Anfield legend Mohamed Salah, who have both made strong starts to the season under new Reds boss Arne Slot. While they may have the edge at present, he pointed out that youngsters Doku and Savinho, a summer signing from French side Troyes, have time on their side.

“Diaz and Salah have more tenure in the PL, and more time together than Savinho and Doku. That makes it harder to compare,” he said, reported Bolavip.com.

“However, either of them are the best pair in modern times. Salah and Diaz are a scoring combination, they can assist well, and they are very in-sync with their teammates. Doku and Savinho need time, but their potential is through the roof."

On Diaz, who helped Colombia to the final of the Copa America in summer, losing to Argentina, Aguero, 36, said: “Luis Diaz had proven his calibre time and time again. In any case, I think Colombia grew because of Luis’ own experience in Europe.

“It took their whole team to another level. He's not the only player who did – [Daniel] Munoz playing for Palace is also of note. This type of background makes a national team better-rounded.”

Garnacho and Rashford weren’t even in the conversation amid a slow start for Man United, which has kept the pressure firmly on head coach Erik ten Hag.

Meanwhile, Diaz and Munoz were both involved as Colombia defeated Argentina 2-1 in the South American World Cup qualifying this week. Argentina, who were without Lionel Messi, saw their advantage over second-placed Colombia cut to two points.
