Rylan sheds a tear at BAFTA TV Awards as he admits to not being over divorce

gave a very candid confession following They scooped up the Factual Entertainment prize at the annual award ceremony for their show Rob And Rylan’s Grand Tour, about them exploring Italy.

While on stage, Rylan thanked the and the production company, while calling for a “bigger styling budget” from the corporation because he won the BAFTA. The BBC Radio 2 presenter also praised the trust in making a TV show about “two gay guys, going through a divorce”, before quickly adding in “but not to each other”.

presenter Robert hailed their mothers for giving them both “unconditional love”, and also praised Rylan, who parted ways with husband back in 2021.

However, when they headed into the winning room together the pair opened up even more about their personal lives and what the win meant to them - leaving Rylan wiping away a tear.

Speaking to the and other press, he said: "The show, it happened at a really time for me. I wasn't fully over some of the breakdown of my marriage and stuff like that. I was flung with a judge. It was the best therapy I needed.

"The journey, and I hate that word in telly, from when we meet and how raw I was at that time. It was like being an adolescent again and starting again but with cameras there.

"Everyone who worked on the show made it look exactly how it was. They didn't try to make it look good." He teased the upcoming second series and added: "We are not fully healed and so we went to India. We didn't think we would be able to top the Italy show but it is incredible."

Speaking about how his life has changed since appearing on X Factor in 2012 and what it was like breaking into the TV industry, Rylan said: "Rob got a little bit of pressure at the start of his TV career as well. I think that's exactly what this show is, it shows you don't need to stay in your lane.

"Just because I finished fifth on , I should have been forgotten about by February after I had done all the gay clubs. You can take a different route. Slap that indicator on and go into the left lane, and it's taken me somewhere else.

"I think that's what the show showed. If you don't try these new things and do it, then you are just going to stay standing still. I think the little Rylan on X Factor did alright in the end."

Just last week, as he decided to ditch the dating . "I'm not on the apps no more," Rylan said. "I've come off all the apps and I'm alright."

In response, his Radio 2 co-star Zoë playfully noted live on air: "You've got a twinkle in your eye. I know you always have a twinkle in your eye, but that's a particularly big one." Rylan jokingly responded that it might just be a stye.
