The Fall of the House of Usher was created by Mike Flanagan and is based on the works of Edgar Allan Poe. It premiered on Netflix back in 2023 and follows an affluent family who are repeatedly struck by tragedy, though a long-held family secret could be the reason for their grisly deaths
Netflix's synopsis reads: "Ruthless siblings Roderick and Madeline Usher have built Fortunato Pharmaceuticals into an empire of wealth, privilege and power. But past secrets come to light when the heirs to the Usher dynasty start dying at the hands of a mysterious woman from their youth."
Ruth has a starring role in the series as Juno Usher, the young bride of the Usher family patriarch Roderick (Bruce Greenwood). Also in the cast is Kate Siegel as the ruthless Camille, Star Wars legend Mark Hamill, Carla Gugino as Verna and Rahul Kohli as Napoleon.
The eight-episode series enjoys a near-perfect Rotten Tomatoes rating, with critics awarding it a 91 per cent score. Meanwhile audiences gave it on average 81 per cent.
One bowled-over viewer gushed: "It is rare that I watch a show that has as much raw power and impact as this show had. All eight episodes were absolutely sublime, the writing was at such a spectacular level that I found myself having to pause and rewind several times to repeat the speeches."
Meanwhile a second penned: "Wow! what a wonderful take on an iconic classic. THIS is what a remake should be like," as a third echoed: "Flanagan's BEST I think. The visuals were awesome, the elements of suspicion and suspense are handled sleek and smooth."
