A music legend from the 1980s has died at the age of 72, it has been confirmed. Cavin Yarbrough, who was part of the iconicR&B duo Yarbrough & Peoples died on Thursday, June 19, due to complications from heart disease.
His wife and longtime music partner, Alisa Peoples, paid an emotional tribute following his death. Speaking to LATF USA, she said: "He was the love of my life, my protector. Now he’s my guardian angel."
The couple's representative and longtime friend, Michele Elyzabeth also paid tribute to the star in a touching tribute. She said: "Cavin was not only an extraordinary talent, but a kind man with a great heart. His legacy will live on in the music, in our memories, and in the hearts of everyone who knew him."

As well as being a vocalist and musician, Cavin was a producer and a pioneer who helped shape the sound of R&B in the 1980s. Alongside Alisa, the pair quickly rose to fame and got a number one hit in 1981 with Don't Stop the Music.
The record led to the pair getting a Grammy nomination a year later. The tune is still a huge hit in the dance and funk scene.
After initially being discovered by Charlie Wilson of The Gap Band, they went on to be signed to Total Experience Records. Among their successful songs were Guilty, I Wouldn't Lie and Heartbeat.
After finding fame, the duo later moved back to Dallas to get back to their personal and spiritual roots. There, they began their own production company.

However, the couple continued to tour and also took a leap into acting, taking on roles in a number of movies. In 2021 they were also honoured at The Black Academy of Arts and Letters in the Dallas Convention Center.
Following the sad news of his death, fans were quick to pay tribute on social media. On Twitter/X, one user wrote: "In Loving Memory of Cavin Yarbrough: A True Texas Legend."
Another on the platform said "R.I.P. Cavin Yarbrough #DontStopTheMusic." They shared a Yarbrough & Peoples album cover in their tribute.
Elsewhere on Facebook fans also left touching messages. One user wrote: "RIP Cavin Yarbrough Your voice, your artistry, and your legacy with Yarbrough & Peoples touched so many hearts. 'Don’t Stop the Music' — and we won’t. Your music lives on forever."
Another added: "R. I. H. Cavin Yarborough your music will live on. My deepest condolences to your wife Alisa Peoples and your family. You will be truly missed.
"We will never forget that wonderful song that everybody loved in the 80s Don't stop the music. Dallas own R&B Legend."
And a third said: "Rest in peace, love, and music Cavin Yarborough. Condolences and prayers to family and loved ones."
