If you or someone in your family is thinking of using supplements to increase height, then wait and consult an expert first. Such supplements taken without information and medical guidance can harm your health, especially your kidneys.

Height-Increasing Supplements: In today's time, tall height is associated with attractiveness and confidence. Due to this thinking, there is a flood of many types of height-increasing supplements, powders and tablets in the market. These products especially target teenagers and young people who are ready to try anything to increase their height. The advertisements of these supplements make big promises that they can increase height in a few weeks. But are these claims true? And the more important question is whether these supplements can be dangerous for the kidneys?
Science of Height Growth: First of all, it is important to understand that about 80% of our height is genetic. The remaining 20% is affected by nutrition, exercise, sleep and health. The work of increasing the length of bones is done by growth plates which are active during adolescence but after the age of 18 to 21 years these plates stop. That is, after this age it becomes almost impossible to increase height naturally. In such a situation, the effect of supplements is very limited.
How dangerous are height increasing supplements?
Dr. Himanshu Verma of the Nephrology Department at Safdarjung Hospital explains that many height increasing supplements contain synthetic growth hormones, excessive amounts of protein, iron, calcium and other minerals. If all these elements are not in balance, they can have adverse effects on the body. The kidneys are affected the most because the kidneys filter out most of the toxins entering the body. If heavy metals, steroids or impure elements are present in the supplements, the stress on the kidneys increases, which increases the risk of kidney damage.
1- Many studies have shown that long-term use of supplements without consulting a doctor can affect kidney function. This can lead to serious conditions like kidney inflammation, increased creatinine levels or even kidney failure. These supplements can be especially dangerous for a person already suffering from kidney or liver problems.
2- Often these height increasing products come in the market without any medical certification or testing. Some of these local brands are such that they mix poor quality ingredients and sell them. In such a case, using them does not give any benefit, on the contrary it can definitely cause harm.
3- Therefore, if a child or youth is worried about his height, then he should first take a balanced diet which has adequate amount of protein, calcium, vitamin D and zinc. Also, regular exercise, swimming, cycling, and good sleep are natural ways to increase height. Any supplement should be taken only after consulting a doctor or dietician.
Choose safe and natural options: Height increasing supplements can not only be ineffective, but if used incorrectly, they can also pose a serious threat to your kidneys. So do not trust any claims without checking and always prefer safe and natural options.
